Help the Heroes Team Surf Contest
Venue: Fistral Beach
Date: Easter Weekend (April 3rd 4th)

Over Easter weekend 2010 Fistral Beach will play host to a high profile charity Team Surf competition.  The event will be held to raise money for the ‘Help the Heroes’ Charity.

Help for Heroes has become a very well known charity since it originated in October 2007, and as far as we know this is the first surf competition in aid of Help for Heroes.

Help the Heroes Team Surf Contest

The format of the event is one that has not been used in the UK before. There will be 4 surfers per team, 2 surfers from two teams will compete against each other at a time. Meaning the heats are very tactical and very exciting to watch. This competition will attract the UK’s best surfers and will be the first major surf event of the season.

Help for Heroes was founded 2 years ago out of a desire to help the wounded servicemen and woman returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. It is currently building a series of regional Recovery Houses, which will serve as the last stage of rehabilitation before a serviceman or woman returns to their unit or civilian life.

Fistral Beach along with the UK Pro Surf Tour will be working to make this event a great success.

Nick Briant from Fistral Beach said “We are delighted to host and sponsor this new team format event. It’s also a chance for us to show support for out servicemen and woman, many of whom surf here on a regular basis”.

Dave Reed director of UKPSA and the tour stated “This is our first team event we have put together for the tour, with an exciting new format, I am sure many of the UK’s top surfers will be attending and at the same time helping such a good cause”.

Help the Heros Team Surf Contest

All entry fees plus £1,000 donated from Britannic Industries for the winning team to give to the charity.

The venue for the contest is Fistral Beach. Fistral is situated on Cornwall’s north coastline and is known as one of the UK’s best surfing beaches. It already plays host to the Relentless Boardmasters in August and the Gul Night Surf in June.

Easter Weekend in Newquay is a popular holiday destination, which means there is the potential for a very large crowd. With shops, café and restaurant on site Fistral Beach is an ideal family location
