All NEW PowerLyte composites
We’ve learned a lot over the last 40 years. From the original Haut Balsa’s to our modern day EpxySkins, we’ve always embraced advancements in materials. This year we’re proud to release our all new PowerLyte construction. By listening to feedback from our Team riders and working closely with our shapers and engineers, a new standard of performance and quality has been achieved. PowerLyte’s feature precision molded rails, rockers and bottom contours. Flex is controlled through engineered EPS cores, giving them a snappy, powerful, predictable feel. A special VDS (vibration dampening skin) eliminates unwanted chatter in choppy surf. What does this all mean? It means the wave is your canvas. Do with it what you like. Over and over and over again.

High Performance Fiberglass Fins
We don’t just stop at our board design. We take fin design very seriously and by doing so have partnered up with the greatest fin foiler in the world, Curtis Hesselgrave. If you’ve never heard of him, Google his name and you’ll see why he’s the chosen one. Curtis has come aboard to ensure every board we design includes a set of high quality fiberglass fins which provide optimum performance and accuracy for each application. Fins are like wings on a plane, use the wrong ones and things can get ugly. Your board and its fins work together as system to help you get the most out of each wave.

Research & Development
We have an unbelievable R&D team that extends beyond just our pro riders. We have board testers of all ages and genders, weights and surfing abilities. Our Pro and Amateur surf teams keep pushing the levels of design and are our number one asset for keeping the high performance models polished and in tune with demands of modern surfing.

How does a board make into the Santa Cruz line up? This is where all of the hard work pays off. It all starts with an idea. With the feedback of our team riders and the demand of our customers, new shapes are brought to life through a long process of trial and error, feedback and thorough testing. Our in house R&D lab is busy year round and our riders can always be seen on the latest designs.

Once an Idea is conceived, that’s when the work begins. Getting a great design is no easy feat. We simplify the process by working with forward thinking shapers, designers, engineers and riders. The main gears of our design team consist of two time shaper of the year, Eric Arakawa, Fin Engineer Curtis Hesselgrave, veteran Shaper Doug Haut, COLE surfboards of San Clemente, The North Shore’s Matt Yerxa andInnovative design theorist/ Shaper ex Pro Tour veteran Chris Gallagher. We test our boards in every type of wave and condition imaginable, think and re-think, add a little here, take away a little there until each board gets the “Magic”. All of this is accomplished under our own roof.

Advantages
  • Durability- The number one benefit of epoxy is its strength to weight ratio. Epoxy resin weighs about 15% less but is 30% stronger than polyester. 100% percent stronger against pressure dings.
  • Travel- Epoxy boards are ideal travel boards. You can count on your board arriving your destination in one piece ready to perform. Keeps your board bag light and easy to load and unload.
  • Repair- Contrary to popular belief, epoxy boards are quite easy to repair. A simple epoxy repair putty can patch up a ding in less than a minute. Cures in water, sand later.
  • Environmentally friendly- EPS and Epoxy are more environmentally friendly. Epoxy resin emits almost zero fumes and less toxic to the laminator.
  • Flex- Epoxy has a quicker flex pattern, giving the rider greater whip and board response time. This difference also gives the board the added benefit of catching waves easier and getting up to speed faster.
  • Repeatability- Get your favorite board over and over. If you travel, you can leave one where you go the most. You can sell one and return light with no board fees.
  • UV resistant- Epoxy can withstand more sun exposure and will not yellow or fade over time. This doesn’t mean its ok to leave your board in your car during a heatwave but with proper care, your board will last you a long, long time.
