Saltrock Open Stop No 2 of 9 on 2011 UK PST Croyde Beach, North Devon Whitsun weekend - 28th 29th 30th May 2011 www.ukprosurf.com
Success in The 2011 Saltrock Open is vital this year
This year marks the 10th anniversary of The Saltrock Open in Croyde Bay, and the stakes are higher than ever.
This year surfers must enter The Saltrock Open to qualify for the Newquay Nightsurf which, with a £15,000 prize pool, is a 6 star event and so a vital tour stop for surfers to gain enough points to be in the Relentless Evolutionary Series to be held later in the season at prime surf locations around the UK.
‘I can’t express strongly enough the importance of The Saltrock Open to the tour this year,’ says UKPST Director Dave Reed. ‘It’s vital to perform well in the Saltrock Open to qualify for the Nightsurf, which will in turn be a huge boost towards qualification for the Relentless Evolutionary Series. Its essential surfers enter ASAP as we’ve already had a huge amount of interest and we don’t want anyone to miss out.’
Saltrock’s close ties with the local community mean that this year Croyde Surf Club has been offered 2 wildcards straight through to the round of 32. CSC is one of the biggest surf clubs in the UK with an extremely loyal and talented group of members. The names of the 2 lucky wildcards haven’t been confirmed yet, but watch this space.
Croyde is the perfect spot to host The Saltrock Open as it’s one of the best beach breaks in the country and can produce top quality barreling waves at low tide. The contest venue at Downend Point is perfectly positioned and provides plenty of perfect viewing spots for everyone to see the UK’s finest surfers at their best.
Due to the importance of the event, UKPSA anticipate the largest number of entries yet so anyone wishing to compete should enter early to avoid disappointment.
