The Saltrock Open 2010 to be streamed live across the globe

For the first time ever, surfers across the world will be able to watch events unfold at this year’s Saltrock Open live online.  Saltbox.tv will be livestreaming the event, so even if you can’t make it to Croyde you don’t have to miss a wave.  Highlighted podcasts will also be made available to all major media and industry partners.

The Saltrock Open is taking place in Croyde on Whitsun weekend in May, and 2010 is looking bigger and better than ever.  Spectators will see the best surfers from the UK and visiting professionals take on one of the UK’s most celebrated breaks and fight it out to knock current champion Aussie Glen Hall from the top of the podium.

Saltrock Open
Last year’s Saltrock Open was the best start to a tour yet.  A huge crowd turned out to enjoy great weather, clean, consistent swell and some inspired surfing from visitors and locals alike.  Even the celebrity spotters were given an exciting surprise as Justin Lee Collins appeared to compete in his first ever surf comp.  Every category was hard fought, with the Men’s Open culminating in a fight between three world class surfers from Newquay and an Australian.  The fact that the Aussie took the title will no doubt fire up the local contingent for a fight back this year!

The 2010 Saltrock Open surfing categories will include:  Open, Women's, Pro Junior, U16 Girls, U16 Boys & U12 Open.  Relentless will provide a prize of £250 for the Biggest Aerial, and King of Watersports.com will provide a prize of a £200 Skateboard for the highest scoring wave for Men and Women.

Dave Reed, UK PST Director is very excited about the competition.  ‘After a difficult two years for the surfing industry, it’s great to be able to put showcase the country’s top talent in a fantastic location like Croyde.”  He goes on to say, “Its also good to be working with the team at Saltrock again, who are a great proponent of South West surfing and who I’m glad to say are looking forward to a big future.”

As always, the competition will end with a party in one of Croyde’s popular local pubs.
