Quiksilver 3 Degrees Series Event 3

1 - 2 November 2008

The Richest event on the UK Pro Surf Tour and possibly one of the deciding events, the Quiksilver Portrush Open will take place next week, November 1st 2nd at Whiterock or East Strand Beach Portrush N Ireland

Top professional surfers competing in the UK, some of the best surfers from across Europe will compete for valuable points and prize money on the UK Pro Surf Tour. These include: Current tour leader Matt Capel (S Devon), Past European and British Champion Spencer Hargraves (Newquay), tour champion Sam Lamiroy (Newcastle), 2006 UK Pro Surf Tour Champion Australian Micah Lester and 2007 Welsh Champion Mark Vaughan (Llantwit), amongst many others.

They will be up against world class talent, possibly the favourite, brought up in Australia and now resident in Ireland Glen Hall as well as Irish Surf Team members Fergal Smith and Cain Kilcullen. The Roxy Portrush Women’s Open will also be taking place and attract a strong field of competitors including Irish favourite, Irish Champion Nicole Morgan, English Champion Holly Donnelly (Newquay) and Australian Raine Jackson.

It will be the third and final stop on the Quiksilver 3 Degrees Series. The other two stops were held in Thurso Scotland and Tynemouth Newcastle. With more points available the 3 Degrees Champion will be crowned at this event.

UK Pro Surf Tour Director Dave Reed said “This will be our second time in Ireland, with the backing of Quiksilver and Roxy the event will be bigger and better than last year. Coleraine Council need to be praised for their support of this event and others like it, which will help develop the opportunity for competitive surfing in the area. Many thanks also need to go to the Irish Surfing Association and Christian Surfers”.

Spencer Hargaves commented” Ive been to Ireland a bunch of times over the years and the waves are world class l cant wait! its great to be coming back to surf and be involved with Quiksilver in running a special event in Portrush where l hope we can top of the best waves for the last event of the Quiksilver Three degrees series !!!!!! Big thanks to everyone in Ireland for there support and l hope to have a great weekend.

In addition to providing refreshments Relentless Energy drink will give away £250 for the surfer who performs the Most Powerful Manoeuvre during the event.

King of Watersports will also provide ‘The King of the Wave’ challenge. The highest scoring wave in the men’s and women’s contest will receive a top of the range Sector 9 Longboard / Skateboard.
