NEWQUAY’S NIGHT SURF COMPETITION

The renowned annual Night Surf event will return to Fistral Beach, Newquay on the 4th and 5th July thanks to an exciting partnership between the UK Pro Surfing Association (UKPSA) and the Newquay Business Improvement District (BID), Britannic Industry (owners of the Beach Complex), Fistral Beach Bar, The New Stable Restaurant, Carlsberg, Pommie Grommet, Beach Bum and Adams Surfboards. One of the only events of its kind in Europe, the extremely popular Night Surf attracts the best British surfers, many international competitors and a large supportive crowd for a two day competition under the special flood lights.  Live music, DJs and fireworks also light up the beach and if there is any surf event to put in your calendar, this is it.

The Night Surf started off 13 years ago at Lusty Glaze and recently moved to Fistral Beach. It is one of the biggest and most important in the area and continues to go from strength to strength. This year we not only have an Open division but have added a Women’s and Pro Junior category and included the Adams Under 18 Boys and Beach Bum U14 Boys divisions.

Dave Reed, Director of the UK Pro Surf Tour said: “We would like all the sponsors for coming forward with an invaluable support to keep this popular event going.  The Night Surf is an integral part of the annual Newquay event calendar and the UKPSA pro surfer’s programme. So many people want this event to happen and understand its role in Newquay and in surfing UK-wise”.

The Night Surf starts on Friday 4th July at 3pm where the first lot of surfers will take to the waves for the Open Division.  They will continue to battle it out through dusk and into the night until 11.00pm on Friday and Saturday.

For the spectators, as well as being able to see some of the top UK’s surfers doing their stuff under challenging conditions, there will be a firework display on the Saturday night at 10.45pm as part of the closing party. Throughout both evenings there will also be live music, DJs in the Red Bull truck and beach activities for all ages.
