This event will highlight the beach location at Saltburn and the surrounding area as one of the best surfing locations in the UK.
This is the first time ever that the UK Professional Surf Tour has visited Saltburn.


Catagories / Prize Money:
Mens Open - £2000, Women's - £500, Pro Junior - £250, U16 Boys - £100

The action starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday 14th May and runs through till 4PM on Sunday.

Local surfers will be joining the professionals to compete in the competition to win the Saltburn Championship title.
The event is supported by Redcar and Cleveland Council

General Description: A busy medium wave beach break at the seafront of Saltburn by the sea. Works best on a three - four foot swell, but will work in all swells.

Directions: Head towards Redcar and Saltburn is signposted. When in Saltburn head to the Pier (best peak)

ACCESS STATEMENT


INTRODUCTION
The British Pro Surfing Championships is an annual event taking place over 2 days in May 2010 on Saltburn Lower promenade. The event is the Professional British Surfing Championships; this event brings together the best surfers from the UK and around the world to compete on the UK Tour

It is a fully accessible event for wheelchair. We recommend the use of the Cliff Lift to reach the lower promenade. Access by car  is also available with disabled parking  available within lower promenade car parks.

Car parking is available at the event and disabled spaces are available, at the lower and top promenade areas.
Distance to nearest town is approximately 0.5 miles.
Saltburn is serviced by a train station with direct links from Redcar, Middlesbrough, Eaglescliffe and Darlington. For times ring 0845 48 4950.
Saltburn is connected to most local towns through the bus and train network. Please telephone 0870 6082608 for more public transport information.

ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING FACILITIES
Various car parking options are available throughout the event. 
For lower promenade car parks please follow signs for car parking lower prom. There is a charge for both of these car parks. The sandy area round the car park may be slightly uneven. Lower prom car parks are 3 minutes walk from the event.
Upper promenade parking is situated on marine parade; there is no charge for parking on the top prom.  Upper prom car parking is 5-10 minutes walks from the event or short trip in the cliff lift.
Disabled car parking bays are located on the top prom and access to the lower prom can be made via the Cliff Lift.

CLIFF LIFT
Victorian water-balanced inclined tramway linking the town of Saltburn to the lower promenade and beach. From the station head towards the seafront. Find cliff lift at bottom of Saltburn Bank on the lower promenade.

MAIN ENTRANCE
Opening times are 10.00 to 17.00 Saturday and Sunday. The event is not ticketed and is free

PUBLIC AREAS
There are no steps up into the viewing area of the event but access to the beach area is restricted and not fully accessible.
Public viewing areas are wheelchair accessible and generally on level ground.
A hearing loop is available within Saltburn  Tourist Centre.
There are seating areas along the bottom and top promenades
Dog free zones are in operation at Redcar and Saltburn from 1st May - 30th September every year. The area at Saltburn stretches from the Pier to Hazelgrove. The restricted areas are clearly marked with signs.


PUBLIC WCS
Both disabled and public toilet facilities are available in Cat Nab Car Park and the town square (opposite town clock) a Radar Key is required to access the disabled facilities.
Public toilets are also available on the lower promenade within the event area.

DINING
Soft drinks, hot drinks will be available on the event site.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
There is cycle & motorcycle  parking onsite.

FUTURE PLANS
The British Pro Surfing Competition continues to improve its facilities each year based on visitor feedback and demand.
